Week 6-Halfway There!

Well, we're at the halfway point. How is it going? For this week's assignment, I'm asking you to do three things:

1. Provide a little bit of information about your experience so far by answering these questions:
On average how much time do you spend on the assignments?
Do you check back after you post your comment to read other comments?

2. Revisit the previous blog posts (find access to the archived posts in the lower right corner hand of this page), and read through the comments. Find at least one thing to comment on and "reply" to that comment by clicking "reply" and leaving an insight, answer, or suggestion to that comment. One of the benefits of blogging is the conversation it allows for. Imagine if we had done this class via email. I could have sent you each week's post in an email and you could have responded to me with a reply to that email. However, notice how much richer it is to see and respond to each other's thinking using the blog instead.

3. Leave a comment to this post with your "mid-term" reflection. Anything you want to share is fine, but here a few questions you might want to consider: How is this set up working for you? How does learning this way stack up next to more traditional ways of learning? Have you learned anything about the way you learn that might impact how you teach? Any suggestions for the second half of the class? Remember--commenting on someone else's post counts.

~I have been spending about 30-45 minutes on the assignments as I peruse through the interesting information that we are givin and then comment about them. ~I have tended to be one of the last ones to post (at the last minute) so I do read what other people comment before or after I post, but do not generally go back. I do enjoy doing this online learning. I signed up again this year because I like that it causes me to be able to learn new little things that I would not get otherwise. I may not always use things, even when I want to.....but I like that I am aware that they exist! :) I am learning this year that I am busier than I was last year and do not find as much time to be able to get to this as easily as before.

I too am learning that I am busier this year! November has been a very full month. I do like to have this info available and having it be a "class" forces me to participate rather than just say "later..." So that I have appreciated.
I have been running crazy with this class this time. I feel a little behind mostly because of this time of year and learning a new grade level, etc. I typically spend about 30 minutes on the article and looking through the sites including my response. I also read what other people write--especially when we choose only one link to look at as someone else may read a different one that I might like (like choosing the blog site). I like the ideas from the posts and I do get many ideas that I want to use and implement in my classroom. I also find it useful that I know someone in the class and we can talk about it (another example of the blog site as the one I found really pertains to another staff members class!). I also agree with Kim--I am very busy this year and I feel like I am running late each week to get it in!
I was doing really well at first in keeping up with blogs, but with the snow storms I've been struggling to find the time. This week I've been playing catch up and I know I'm doing that with these blog posts as well. I end up spending 15-30 minutes depending on how relevant the topic is to me. I haven't been checking back to see if anyone has replied to anything I've posted. I guess I assumed I'd receive an email letting me know if that had happened?

I do like a lot of the ideas that have come up (flash cards, podcasts, etc), but I'm glad I finished the first blog series first!! It is a bit difficult for me to apply some of the topics to my work as the social worker, but I still enjoy learning new things!

You would only receive an e-mail if you were the creator of the blog and set it up to be moderated. This would allow you to review the comment before allowing it to post.
I spend anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes and I have already forgotten the second question!!

I do check back... not immediately that week, but over the course of the class, I will check back on each blog at least once.
